Penallta meet Nelson in quarter finals of Welsh Plate

They don't come any bigger than this. Local rivals Penallta face Nelson tomorrow in the quarter final of the National Plate. Kick off is 2.30 at the 3G Centre of Sporting Excellence.

Nelson are on a roll this season, currently sitting at the top of Division 1 East, but Penallta have put in some great performances recently, including overturning unbeaten Rhydyfelin at home. It's a mouthwatering clash between two in-form village clubs, and anyone who witnessed the league game pre-Christmas, where Nelson won at the death, will know how close and intense the game is likely to be.

Expect a huge crowd and an even bigger game. Penallta have a superb record in the Plate: runners-up last season and champions in 2012 - and will want to keep that run going. The reward at the end of it all is a visit to the Milliennium Stadium in April.

There has been concern this season about the health of grassroots rugby, but tomorrow will be a showcase of thriving, high quality, well supported village rugby between two of the best community clubs in Wales.

One word of warning, alcohol is banned within the perimeter of the Centre of Sporting Excellence. Please refrain from bringing cans or bottles of alcohol into the ground. We are under strict warning from the powers that be.

As an aperitif, Penallta Youth are kicking off on Trinity Fields at 12.30pm against Abergavenny. If you fancy starting early and wellying a few morning ciders into you, then the stars of the future are on show before the big game.

Also in action are the Penallta F Troop, the social animals of the 2nd team. They are kicking off at 2.30pm on Trinity Fields. If second team action is your thing, then Ray's boys will be facing Glamorgan Wanderers.

Come along and support the boys, it's sure to be a great and memorable day.
